Early kit was a 5-piece Gretsch, c. 1958/9, given to him by his Uncle Peter, which he proceeded to destroy!

This set was auctioned in the Butterfield's auction, and was detailed in the catalog as being played during 1985-6, on the Asylum Tour. The kit consisted of "an original Ludwig red sparkle/Chikara double-bass drum kit with Simmons pads: Kick Drums (3 total): 24 inches by 34 inches, Rack Toms (11 total): 7 inches by 18 inches, 9 inches by 18 inches, 9 inches by 18 inches, 10 inches by 18 inches, 11 inches by 18 inches, 12 inches by 12 inches, 13 inches by 13 inches, 16 inches by 15 inches, 19 inches by 17 inches, 14 inches by 14 inches, 17 inches by 16 inches, and Floor Tom (1 total): 20 inches by 19 inches.

Eric's 1987-1988 "Crazy Nights" kit consisted of a Ludwig silver/Chikara drum kit with Simmons Pads (5 total): Bass (Kick) Drums: 23 inches by 40 inches (3 Total) with 3 DW 5000 Drum Pedals, Floor Toms (2 Total): 20 inches by 16 inches and 18 inches by 16 inches, Rack Toms (14 Total): 6 inches by 8 inches (two), 8 inches by 9 inches (three), 10 inches by 10 inches (three), 12 inches by 12 inches (two), 13 inches by 12 inches, 14 inches by 14 inches, 15 inches by 15 inches, 16 inches by 16 inches, Snare Drum (1 Total): 14 inches by 8.5 inches, and Floor Tom (2 Total): 20 inches by 16 inches and 18 inches by 16 inches. Also included were Paiste Symbals including: 12 inch splash, 20 inch china, 16 and 18 inch crashes, two 20 inch power crash, 22 inch power ride, and 14 and 15 inch high-hats. And the obligatory cowbell!
